By now you may have seen the announcement from Hockey NZ regarding an immediate cessation of all competitions under their jurisdiction as a result of Covid-19. Canterbury Hockey have put in place specific guidance around competitions currently running, trials, practices and future competitions, which you can view here.
For our club, we are fortunate in that most trial processes are largely completed, with the exception of Junior Boys who have completed 1 of 2 sessions, Platinum level 1 girls with 1 remaining trial, and Platinum level 2/3 girls who were due to commence their process this Saturday. All mens trials are complete. No further trials will be conducted,
The selectors of these teams now have no choice other than to determine where players are best suited based on data from last year, and prior clubs in relation to player ability. We ask that members support and respect these decisions when our teams are published.
- Once teams are named, these will be loaded onto the CHA portal and invoices will be generated.
- The due date remains 31 May, but this will be reviewed as the competition start dates evolve over the coming months
For CPL and Senior competitions with delayed start dates, we will be working with both CHA and Hockey NZ on relevant fee adjustments, and pass on all savings to our members.
Keep an eye on our website and Facebook pages as more information comes to hand, including handy tips on what you can do at home to prepare yourself for the season ahead for players, umpires and coaches.
In the meantime, please take care of yourselves, your families and neighbours. Canterbury is a very resilient community, and Harewood a strong, innovative club. You have my personal assurance that your committee fully understand how valuable sporting experiences are in our recovery to crisis situations. We will do our utmost to make sure we are well positioned for an immediate start to the season as soon as it is safe to do so.
