Incorporated Society Changes
Over the past 18 months, our club officers have been working towards compliance with new legislation affecting incorporated societies. This work has entailed attending forums to understand the new legislation, researching changes, re-writing policies, aligning our reporting and financial systems for compliance, and seeking advice from government organisations, Sport NZ, Hockey NZ, CHA and our legal representatives.
The new Incorporated Societies Act includes a significant number of changes including how we report, what records we need to keep, how we structure our organisation, the accountability of our Officers, and how we resolve disputes. There are many changes in the new Act. A full list of key changes can be found here https://is-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz/law-changes-for-societies/key-changes/
Should our club wish to remain an Incorporated Society, we must re-register by 5 April 2026. The benefits of being an Incorporated Society include;
Protecting volunteers
Making funding easier
Improves professionalism
Supports long-term sustainability
Reduces risk
To do so requires us to host a Special Meeting to adopt our new constitution formally prior to submitting for approval. Prior to the meeting, we invite you to attend a meeting where members can ask any questions regarding our proposed new constitution, associated policies, and gain further understanding of how these changes affect our club and you as members.
Consultation meeting options are:
Sunday 25 January, Nunweek Park, 4:30pm
Online: Wednesday 28 January, Microsoft Teams, 7pm
Monday 2 February, Nunweek Park, 6pm
Pre-registration for these consultation meetings is required and can be completed here https://forms.gle/HrCD2oAHo1juT4pJA.
A Special General Meeting to adopt the new constitution will be held on Sunday 15 February, 3:30pm, Nunweek Park. Official notice of meeting can be found here.
